Late last year I travelled to Massa-Carrara on the Tuscan and Ligurian borders in north-western Italy. Some of these images have been included in 52 Places to Go in 2024 feature for the New York Times, published this week.
I was totally captivated by this intriguing region, with an impressive backdrop of the dramatic Apuan Alps and views to the crystal clear waters of the Tyrrhenian and Ligurian Seas.
The beautiful town of Carrara, nestled beneath the staggering marble quarries, is an absolute gem with a spectacular main piazza (Piazza Alberica) and many sculptures' studios to admire artisans at work, crafting the precious local marble.
