The towns of Massa and Carrara on the border of Tuscany and Liguria are absolute gems and surprisingly without the tourist crowds.

The locals were super friendly and the scenery just breathtaking.

For me, the Carrara marble quarries in the spectacular Apuan Mountains were simply jaw dropping!

Carrara marble is exquisite, but to see it on such a monumental scale, from the valleys to the peaks of the mountains, is surreal.

The precarious roads up to the marble quarries are hair raising to say the least!  I was so relieved to make it back on flat ground after the shoot!
