If you love exploring new and beautiful territory by bicycle, the Appiano wine growing district south west of Bolzano in the South Tyrol Province is a destination not to be missed.

On the Strada del Vino or Wine Routes that link Bolzano, Appiano and Caldaro, the scenic bicycle trails meander along the old Oltradige rail track and through lush forests, vineyards, apple orchards and picturesque villages.

I explored the area over 3 days on an ebike and it was such an amazing experience!

The Trentino-Alto Adige region has approximately 500 km of cycling trails and a selection of hotels in the area offer the ‘Bolzano Card’ for their guests and at the time of writing this, the ebike rental was included free of charge on this card.

There is also another card called the ‘Wine Pass’ which gives you free or discounted entrance to some museums and wine tastings at some of the best local vineyards.
